Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying 2019

By Harry Schofield

Valtteri Bottas takes his 3rd Pole position of the 2019 Formula 1 season with a time of 1:15.406

Lewis Hamilton was out qualified  but still kept the Mercedes team with another one-two with a lap time of 1:16.040.

Throughout the weekend Lewis has not looked at ease with the car, just before his last flying lap the back end of the car twitched violently and unsettled the  car for the start of the lap.

The balance is ok in the car but just the power delivery and tyre temperature’s again key to good lap times.

Valtteri has made the tyres work and the balance he has of the car is much more superior than Lewis’s set up.

Throughout the debrief Lewis will learn from Bottas and I'm sure he will have good race pace as long as he gets a good start from Bottas.

Disappointing from Ferrari with Vettel 3rd and Leclerc 5th, but they have a new engine update which will see the better pace midway through the race, new engine will only work once miles have been put on it and in the later part of the race tomorrow the Ferrari will come alive.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen continued the good pace of the Honda, which had an update last race, with a 4th position and a time of 1:16.272 and Gasly managing 6th with a lap of 1:16.708.

The race tomorrow will be Mercedes at the start, Red Bull’s and the Ferrari's will come into play around lap 25 with better race pace with low fuel.

Lando Norris will also be one to watch, with a quick race car under him, the Mclaren seems to be working well, the chassis is very impressive, more tweaks and updates and the Mclaren will be fighting for podiums.

Williams continue to struggle with both drivers at the back of the grid, 4 seconds of the pace.
